Lilli Unwin Band @ Olivers 14th Nov Gig review

Thursday nights gig was an absolute pleasure. The gig had a stella line up of musicians including Joe Armon Jones, Jake Long, Harrison Cole, Jean de Talhouët and Lilli Unwin. The combination of these fantastic musicians and a collection of unheard new compositions made the music come to life. The 2 sets were a mixture completely new originals and a couple of standards thrown in for good measure! The recently penned compositions by lilli draw on her wide range of influences, spanning the jazz and pop repertoire. Her set was a range of different moods and grooves from hip hop to bop all with new fresh ideas and strong singable melodies. (i’ve still got the tunes going around in my head! 🙂 The tunes were written in a way that Lilli’s own musical voice can still sing through strong whilst the musicians have the freedom to bring their own ideas to the performance. The evening was packed full of great solos from each of the musicians thanks to some of the great harmony used in the tunes. My personal favourite from the night was ‘travelling home’ such a great little tune – watch out for this in the future!

I’ll have some videos and pictures to upload soon 🙂
